GENEVA (AP) - Thousands of confused, traumatized Somalis have fled the capital this week in some of the worst fighting of a 19-month insurgency, the U.N. refugee agency said Friday.
At least 16,000 people have been chased from their homes in Mogadishu, said Ron Redmond, spokesman for the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees. Many have crammed into the Somali town of Afgooye, which is already flooded with more than 300,000 internally displaced people.
"The new wave of displacement is worsening an already catastrophic situation," Redmond told reporters in Geneva, where the agency has its headquarters.
He said more than 1 million people are displaced in Somalia, which has not had an effective government for more than 17 years. At the end of last year, there were nearly a half-million Somalis registered outside the country, but many more have fled without notifying authorities.
The crisis is exceeding even the worst-case scenarios imagined nearly two years ago, when troops from neighboring Ethiopia arrived to oust a radical Islamic militia and support the Western-backed government. The Ethiopian troops, which many Somalis consider an occupying force, are seen as a cause of the violence and not a cure.More

Next came this year’s version of the twin towers, building 7 and other assorted NYC landmarks in the form of Lehman Brothers, AIG, Merrill Lynch, as well as Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs in their “new & improved” form. Basically took out the whole of American investment brokerage, heh?! And, of course, we still have Washington Mutual out there in the boonies just like the one that “crashed” in a PA farm field. The 700 trillion dollar Bailout Plan is just like the Patriot Act, isn’t it? Only this time it’s maybe a 1 or 2 page document that confers absolute authority on the Executive Branch to do just about anything they want with the taxpayer’s money. And they want it rubber stamped now. Not tomorrow. NOW!!! Without discussion, or unnecessary congressional debate. Talk about Shock & Awe being used against the American people, and their elected representatives!?! Now we know we can expect further gyrations, panics and precipitous declines in the market and elsewhere, just as we had anthrax attacks in the Capital, beltway snipers in Maryland in October of ’02, the 3/11/04 train bombings in Madrid, and the 7/7/05 bombings in London. Not to mention the 50 or so other synthetic terror events staged throughout the world to enforce compliance and create distraction. The sudden and dramatic downfall of NY Gov Eliot Spitzer can also now be seen in its proper light. Having left the reservation one too many times, he simply could not be trusted to go with the flow. He had their numbers, their signatures, their addresses – the whole ball of wax, as well as his own reputation to burnish. The elimination of John O’Neil, Head of Security at the WTC, is quite similar, except that John O. – a great patriot – died on 911 having just been given the job. To date, the most obvious and glaring example of this manipulated takedown is the case of a NY Senator. His letter to the FDIC contained confidential information that triggered the IndyMac bank collapse in July. California AG Jerry Brown was called to review the entire affair after the OTS Director explicitly blamed the letter for causing a run on the bank (3rd largest bank failure in US history). This episode is eerily reminiscent of Larry Silverstein’s order to, “Pull it.” just prior to the expertly controlled demolition of Building # 7on 911. Just as 911 was perpetrated as a cover for: inaugurating the War on Terror, overtly advancing the NWO regime globally (in contrast to this previously covert operation), imposing a police state (Homeland Security) in the US (by gutting the US Constitution), UK and elsewhere, dominating and securing oil/gas reserves in the Middle East and Cacaucus (to include running energy pipelines through Afghanistan and stealing Irag’s oil wealth via military invasion), jump starting the Afghan opium trade, etc., the ECO/FIN 911 of ’08 is a cover for many of these same agenda items. However, there is one little item that is particularly high on the current agenda. And that concerns the derivatives market, which in its totality approximates somewhere between 500 trillion and 1 quadrillion dollars of instruments as of 2008. In fact, the sub prime mortgage defaults are just a tip of the tip of the iceberg when compared to the real megilla – DERIVATIVES. This is what they’re really worried about, and having to cover for. And then there is the teenie, weenie matter concerning the Federal Reserve, and its collection agency – the IRS. The man standing behind this curtain has a lot at stake, especially in the form of mountains of evidence that will indict, and convict, the entire system. Lots of evidence was destroyed during and after 911, as will happen after many of these Wall Street firms are taken over, nationalized, liquidated, merged and disappeared. The veil, however, has already been lifted. Does anyone see a pattern here?! The real lesson to be gleaned from this analysis is that events of such enormity and consequence are rarely spontaneous and unchoreographed. Especially when they happen just weeks from an era defining presidential election. They have obviously been planning this one for a long time, and it has been fastidiously engineered to have a very definite effect and desired outcome – a permanent planetary plantation (PPP). US radar in Israel is aimed at Iran.
THE United States has deployed a sophisticated long-range radar system in Israel capable of providing crucial early warning in case of a missile attack.
There is growing anxiety in Israel and the US that Iran, which makes no secret of its long-range ballistic missiles or its uranium enrichment program, could launch an offensive against Israel.
According to the US newspaper Defense News , published by The Army Times , the radar system was flown to Israel in parts over the past week and will be installed at a military base in the Negev desert in the south of the country.
An unnamed Israeli official told The New York Times that the radar would serve not only Israel, but the US, and would be operated by 120 US staff.
Ephraim Kam, the deputy director of Tel Aviv University's Institute for National Security Studies, called the radar system an "important addition" to Israel's defences and said he believed the US was sending a message that "they are against any attack by Israel on Iran's nuclear facilities at this time but cannot leave us without protection". Israel denounces Iran 'fanaticism' .
The Israeli president has accused Iran of being at the centre of violence and fanaticism, warning that Tehran continued to develop enriched uranium and long range missiles.In an address to the UN General Assembly on Wednesday, Shimon Peres said: "Tehran combines long range missiles and short range minds. It is pregnant with tragedies.
Peres said that the Iranian people were not enemies of Israel, but "Their fanatic leadership is their problem and the world's concern."
In his own address to the Assembly on Tuesday, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the Iranian president, lashed out at Israel and its chief ally the United States, saying "the Zionist regime is on a definite slope to collapse and there is no way for it to get out of the cesspool created by itself and its supporters."
Peres also accused Tehran of dividing Lebanon through its support to the powerful Hezbollah Shia militia.

Russia blasts US dominant role in world affairs.

Lavrov cited the U.S. invasion of Iraq "under the false pretext of fight on terror and nuclear arms proliferation" and questions of excessive use of force against civilians in counterterrorism operations in Afghanistan.

Russia to upgrade nuclear systems
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has announced plans to build a "guaranteed nuclear deterrent system", to be in place by 2020.He said he wanted military chiefs to submit plans by December.
He called for a programme to build new nuclear submarines as well as "a system of aerospace defence".
The announcement comes just weeks after Russia accused the US of starting a new arms race by siting part of its missile defence shield in Poland.
"We must guarantee nuclear deterrence under various political and military conditions by 2020," Mr Medvedev told military commanders.
He said it was necessary to build "new types of armaments" and to "achieve dominance in airspace", according to quotes carried by the Itar-Tass news agency.
"We plan to start serial production of warships, primarily nuclear-powered submarines carrying cruise missiles and multifunctional submarines," Mr Medvedev said. More.

North Korea piled up enriched uranium: defector
North Korea has amassed a "considerable" amount of enriched uranium, a high profile defector was quoted as saying on Thursday.Hwang Jang-Yop told South Korean lawmakers that the communist state completed preparations for an underground nuclear test in 1996.
"As far as I know it has piled up a considerable amount of enriched uranium," he told a meeting hosted by the minor opposition Liberal Forward Party (LFP), a party spokesperson said.
The LFP's Park Sun-Yong also quoted Hwang, 85, as saying the North's recent move to restart its nuclear weapons programme was a bargaining tactic to earn concessions from Washington.
Hwang, former secretary of the North's ruling Workers' Party and an ex-tutor of leader Kim Jong-Il, defected during a trip to Beijing in 1997. He remains under police guard at a secret address in South Korea.
The South and the United States, along with China, Japan and Russia, have been negotiating nuclear disarmament since 2003 with North Korea, which tested an atomic weapon in October 2006.
The United States accuses the North of developing a secret highly enriched uranium weapons programme, a charge it denies.
The North has told the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) it would start work to resume plutonium reprocessing at its Yongbyon complex, possibly within a week. It has barred IAEA from the reprocessing plant.

The meeting with Bush comes at a good time politically for Brown, who is seeking to turn around his lackluster poll ratings by promoting his experience and economic acumen in a time of fiscal instability.
In a speech to his Labour Party's annual conference this week, he emphasized that serious times required a steady hand at the helm. Brown spent a decade as treasury chief under former Prime Minister Tony Blair.
Being included in U.S. talks on the economy will likely boost Brown's argument that novices need not apply for Britain's top job. Pakistani troops fire on US helicopters at border.
KABUL, Afghanistan - Pakistani soldiers fired at American reconnaissance helicopters that were escorting Afghan and U.S. ground troops along the volatile border Thursday, sparking a five-minute ground battle between the countries which have been allies in the war on terrorism, officials said.
Attempting to play down the incident — the first serious exchange with Pakistani forces acknowledged by the U.S. — Pakistan's president said only "flares" were fired at foreign helicopters that he said had strayed across the border from Afghanistan into his country.
The five-minute exchange, which could have easily escalated into a much bigger conflict, could heighten tensions at a time the U.S. is stepping up cross-border operations in a region known as a haven for Taliban and al-Qaida militants.

Egypt unearths granite head of Ramses II.
CAIRO, Egypt - Egypt's antiquities council says that archaeologists have unearthed a 3,000-year-old red granite head believed to portray the 19th Dynasty pharaoh Ramses II.The Supreme Council of Antiquities says the discovery was made recently at Tell Basta, about 50 miles northeast of Cairo.
The council's statement Thursday says the 30-inch high head belonged to a colossal statue of Ramses II that once stood in the area. Its nose is broken and the beard that was once attached to the king's chin is missing.
The site at Tell Basta was dedicated to the cat-goddess Bastet and was an important center from the Old Kingdom until the end of the Roman Period. Archeologists are still digging on the location for the rest of the statue.More

China launches mission for first spacewalk.

JIUQUAN, China - China successfully launched a three-man crew into space Thursday to carry out the country's first spacewalk, beginning the nation's most challenging space mission since it first sent a person into space in 2003.
The Shenzhou 7 spacecraft, China's third manned mission, blasted off atop a Long March 2F rocket at 9:10 p.m. (9:10 a.m. ET) under clear night skies in northwestern China.
The spacewalk by one of the astronauts is expected to take place either on Friday or Saturday.

Daniel 9:26-27, which makes a Biblically common dual-layered prophecy whose first fulfillment came in 66AD, the year of a great Omen by why of a large Comet, when Vespasian along with his son Titus (fitting the 'Roman Prince' archetype) and his armies destroyed both Jerusalem and the Temple (the City and the Sanctuary) over the next four years until Jerusalem became a wasteland, yet its future and final fulfillment shall occur when the Antichrist along with his False Prophet and armies destroy that future Third Temple, and with it, Jerusalem. The Scriptures use this kind of dual-layered prophecy more than once, and it has always confused people yet we know the prophecy in Daniel is referring to the Antichrist because of Christ's own prophetically coded language found within Matthew 24:3-33 (among others) in which he links Daniel's entire prophecy about the "Abomination of Desolation," the future "Prince to come," to be the end-time Antichrist, and the key to unlocking that truth is found in verse three "As He sat upon the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, Tell us when shall these things be? Top Iranian general: Any attack against us will lead to world war.
Any attack on Iran will lead to a world war, the Mehr news agency quoted a top Iranian general as saying Saturday.
"The unbridled greediness of the American and Zionist leadership is pushing the world to the edge of the cliff," Brigadier General Masoud Jazayeri said in relation to the crises in Iraq, Afghanistan, Sudan and Georgia, "should such a (conflict) erupt, the phony and artificial regimes will be annihilated."
Brigadier General Jazayeri, the deputy head of Iran’s Armed Forces Headquarters, did not specifically mention Israel, but the Jewish state is often referred to by Iranian officials as a "phony regime".
Jazayeri's comments came amid the ongoing dispute between Iran and the international community over its nuclear program. Tehran fears an attack on its nuclear facilities and has repeatedly warned Israel and the US against launching such a strike.

N.Korea ousts U.N. monitors, to restart atom bomb plant.
VIENNA (Reuters) - North Korea has expelled U.N. monitors from its plutonium-making nuclear plant and plans to start reactivating it next week, rowing back from a 2007 deal to scrap its atomic bomb program, officials said on Wednesday.
The reclusive Stalinist state said on Friday it was working to restart the Yongbyon atomic complex it had been dismantling since last November under a disarmament-for-aid agreement with five powers that has derailed in disputes over implementation.
Olli Heinonen, the International Atomic Energy Agency's head of non-proliferation safeguards, told an IAEA board of governors meeting that monitors verifying North Korea's denuclearization were forced to leave the plutonium plant this week.
"There are no more seals and surveillance equipment in place at the (plutonium) reprocessing facility," IAEA spokeswoman Melissa Fleming said, referring to the most proliferation-sensitive installation at Yongbyon.
"(North Korea) further stated that from here on, IAEA inspectors will have no further access to the reprocessing plant," she said, summarizing Heinonen's remarks.

Monte Rio is a depressed Northern California town of 900 where the forest is so thick that some streetlights stay on all day long. Its only landmark is a kick-ass bar called the Pink Elephant, but a half-mile or so away from "the Pink," in the middle of a redwood grove, there is, strangely enough, a bank of 16 pay telephones. In midsummer the phones are often crowded. On July 21 of this year Henry Kissinger sat at one of them, chuffing loudly to someone -- Sunshine, he called her, and Sweetie -- about the pleasant distractions of his vacation in the forest.
"We had jazz concert," Kissinger said. "We had rope trick. This morning we went bird-watching."
Proudly Kissinger reeled off the names of some of his fellow campers: "Nick Brady and his brother is here." (Brady was the U.S. Treasury Secretary at the time.) "Tom Johnson is here." (Then the publisher of the Los Angeles Times, who had copies of his newspaper shipped up every day.) "That Indian is here, Bajpai." (He meant Shankar Bajpai, former ambassador to the U.S.) "Today they had a Russian."
The Russian was the physicist Roald Sagdeev, a member of the Soviet Supreme Council of People's Deputies, who had given a speech to Kissinger and many other powerful men too. George Shultz, the former secretary of State, wearing hiking boots, had listened while sitting under a tree. Kissinger had lolled on the ground, distributing mown grass clippings across his white shirt, being careful not to set his elbow on one of the cigar butts squashed in the grass, and joking with a wiry, nut-brown companion.
The woman on the line now asked about the friend. "Oh, Rocard is having a ball." Kissinger was sharing his turtleneck with Rocard, for nights amid the redwoods grew surprisingly cool. Chavez hails oil cooperation with China, blasts US.
BEIJING (AP) - China and Venezuela hailed rising oil exports and growing energy cooperation during a visit to Beijing by Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez that lent him a new platform from which to criticize Washington.
Chavez said oil exports to China could soar to 1 million barrels a day by 2012, up from 330,000 per day now. The two sides also plan to build four oil tankers and to construct three oil refineries in China capable of processing Venezuela's heavy, sulfur-laden crude.
"While the world enters an energy crisis, we are investing," Chavez said.
Venezuela regards China as a key link in its strategy of diversifying oil sales away from the U.S., which still buys about half of Venezuela's oil despite years of political tensions.
On arrival in Beijing on Tuesday, Chavez said Venezuela would demand respect from the U.S. and others.

VIENNA, Austria (AP) - Iran is nearing the ability to arm a nuclear warhead even if it insists its atomic activities are peaceful, the European Union warned Wednesday.
In comments prepared for delivery to the International Atomic Energy Agency's 35 board members, the EU also asserted that Iran appeared to have had a past nuclear arms program despite its denials.
The statement was made available to reporters as the meeting turned its attention on Iran's nuclear defiance on its third day. The main international concerns focus on the country's refusal to freeze uranium enrichment despite three U.N. Security Council sanctions and its blocking of IAEA attempts to follow up on intelligence suggesting it was developing a nuclear arms program until several years ago.
Iran insists its nuclear activities are geared only toward generating power. But Israel says the Islamic Republic could have enough nuclear material to make its first bomb within a year. The U.S. estimates Iran is at least two years away from that stage, and some experts say the country could reach that stage in as little as 6 months through uranium enrichment.
